How Much Practice is Recommended?

WOW! If I had a most frequently asked question, this would be it!

As a mom, this is often a battle, but I have a few suggestions.

One- practice is work! Not always fun.

Second, 4-5 days a week of practice is ideal. Like going to school, making it a habit increases its success.

I suggest take the age of the child and double it, and then that amount of time is normally about right.

Example- a ten year old may do a productive twenty minutes of practice, and that is great!

It’s never too late to start!

Here at Petrova Jones Music INC, we teach students that vary greatly by age. While young children and teens do make up a majority of our clients, we teach a generous handful of adult students that are reaping the benefits of learning music.

            Some adults have decided to pursue their lifelong dream of learning an instrument or mastering their vocal ability.  For example, we had a retired gentleman who came to us wanting to learn to play his favorite song on the guitar…and ONLY that song. Leaning to play it had been a goal that escaped him for years. We made it a reality! While we are happy to help you achieve your goals, we also don’t think it should end there!

            Other adults (particularly the retirees), are taking up music lessons as an activity that not only gives them a new hobby but one that has enormous benefits on keeping the aging mind sharp,  and the hands, wrists and elbows moving well.   Piano in particular is like a gym membership for your brain, because when you start playing the piano with both hands you are using both sides of the brain simultaneously.   There is an increasing amount of research exploring the benefits of learning music in adults. 

In one study, 13 adults partook In piano lessons over a course of time and In a majority of the participants, their memory, attention and problem solving skills greatly improved.

“In addition, the fact that musical training appears to enhance auditory working memory—needed to improvise, memorize, play in time, and tune your instrument—might help reinforce in later life the memory capacity that facilitates communication and conversation.”

HOME SCHOOL SUPPORT at PETROVA JONES MUSIC

Did you know we offer a home school support program right here at our store front? Yes! Finally, an option for parents who want to properly teach their own child,  but struggle to provide them with the best education in all subjects at home. Perhaps you have a little one to care for at home and find it hard to juggle caring for a baby or toddler and properly teaching an older sibling; You may have certain subjects you thrive in and others you struggle in. This is where we can help you and your child stay as a 'homeschooling' family, but with the support you need.

HOME  SCHOOL SUPPORT PROGRAM OVERVIEW: 

(Academic and Music Support)

· Run by a family of state certified FL DOE and degreed teachers

· Accredited Home School Curriculum options- such as that from Abeka (with transcripts and report cards

·  Owner has her Master’s Degree in Education in addition to Music and K-6 certification

·  We offer Gifted teaching, and special needs teaching and custom education for music and academics, and we do accept PSLA/ Gardiner scholarship - personal learning scholarship

· Work at your grade level and also have the ability to proceed to the next grade as long as a minimum of  6 months have passed

· Children are grouped with others of similar grades and abilities, not all by themselves.

· STEM class (hands on Science, Tech, Engineering, Math and Robotics classes)

·   Music lessons daily 

·   Daily electives

·   French and Spanish Language available

·  World History and Geography

·  Cursive Writing

Congratulations to my vocal student Alexis ( aka Lexi) - she won last night's Starstruck Talent Show!

She competed against numerous talented students ( of various ages) from all across the Treasure Coast last night and won the grand prize! She rocked the house with her performance of 'Taylor, the Latte Boy.'

Recital is just 20 days away! 👍

November 14, 2015 at Christ Family Church- 4100 Okeechobee Road, Fort Pierce. 

Recital times: 9:00, 10:30, 12:00, 1:30, 3:00, 4:30

Just a 'Recital' reminder- when you are in our studio for lessons this week, if your child is a participant, although I believe everyone has already completed this task, please be sure to sign up for your child's recital time if they are playing in the 11/14 show. The sign up clipboard is on the front desk. Remaining show times with open spots are just the 9:00 and the 4:30 pm as of today. The other shows are filled ( 10:30, 12, 1:30, and 3:00.)

Also pre order your professional recital photo and DVD packages now to get them at 20 percent off ( prices are discounted on the sheets currently)- forms are also on the front desk 😄 We had to make one change to the recital due to rising costs in overhead- for  

all students participating in this recital they will receive 2 tickets ( for mom and dad)- so if you have 2 children participating, that is 4 tickets for the family. At a discount,  additional tickets can be purchased or ordered at the studio too and are available to take home as the tickets have arrived or can be set up to have waiting at the venue. Ticket prices are $6 for kids over age 5, and $8 for adults with under 5's being free. Please note the performers do not need ticket and each performers free tickets will be given during the last week before the show. 

By taking care of this stuff ahead of time, it will allow you to save $ and enjoy more 😄Please let me know if you have any questions.

Recital reminders:

Date: 5/23, Saturday

Show times: Your child was assigned either 9:00, 10:30, 12:00, 2:00, 3:30 or 5:00

Please check your child's showtime with the front desk if you are unsure. Arrive 20-30 minutes prior to your time. There may be a show still occurring when you arrive so please be aware. You are free to bring as many guests as you like.

Location: Christ family church

Directions: Take I95 to Okeechobee Road. Head East. At the fork in the road keep left/ staying on okeechobee road. At Hartman make a left. Then,?Make your first left into orange blossom mall plaza and the church is next to saint james Christian academy and Maximus. Call 5613792887 if you get lost.

Photo/ DVD: If you are getting a professional photo package please come about 20-25 minutes early as we are doing pictures before the show in a staged photo shoot area. Backdrop is a sky blue with white. You can still order photos the day of the recital but it is less expensive before Saturday's show to preorder at the store. Pricing is $25 and up.  We also have a team of 3 professional videographers to tape and edit the show and put it on DVD for you, available for pre order purchase either ahead of time or at the location. $20 at location, $18 pre order

Dress code: Dress, or skirt or dress pants for girls. Shirt and tie or collared shirt and dress pants for boys. Please, no flip flops, no shorts or jeans for performers. 

How much are tickets?

 While our recital is free, the cost is over $1800  for our studio. We do have a voluntary ticket donation bucket if you'd like to contribute to help with the overhead. This helps pay custodians, the church sound team, church videographers, and our teachers, and provides a nice love offering to give the church for use of their facility. 

Can I bring anything?

Yes!!! Please do! If you can, we do ask that you bring an item we can put in our charity concession stand. We are requesting Cases of water, soda, juice, chocolate bars, baked goods, cookies, or individual bagged chips. We are raising money for an orphanage in Haiti that we are committed to bringing music classes to via DVD or virtual classes, and we need the funds to help purchase instruments to be sent there through mission flights international. Please consider donating! The items you donate will then be sold for $1 or a donation to raise funds for the orphans.

Petrova Jones Music is a local Christian music business dedicated to providing custom music education  TM to your child. We cater to students of all ages and all types of learners.  We are a business run by state certified and experienced teachers so we value education. We love working with homeschoolers and can offer daytime classes to meet your needs or evening. We provide music lessons for ages 3 and up in virtually any instrument in both private and small group format. Additionally, we do vocal coaching! Just a friendly reminder our recital date is 5/23/ 15  at Christ Family Church in Fort Pierce. Recital show  times you may choose from are as follows: 9:00 am, 10:30 am, 12:00 pm, 2:00 pm, 3:30 pm or 5:00 pm

Please ensure you have selected the best show time for your family by filing out the sign up sheet at our store or by texting 561-379-2887 with the show time you prefer your child to play in,

Please also turn in orders for your professional DVD's of the show and professional photography packages ASAP!

First Place Winner: 2015 Port St. Lucie Annual Talent Showcase

We are proud to be home to the winner of the Port St Lucie annual

talent show for the 3rd consecutive row!   Emma M won Judge's Choice at barely 8 years old for her performance of ' On My Own' from Les Mis.

Emma S, a vocalist, also studying under Petrova Jones, won first place in category for her performance of ' Quiet' from Matilda. She brought the house down. 

It was a great competition and there were a great deal of talented children and adults competing. We are so proud of everyone!
